More than 18 months into the Glass Explorer program, less than half of current Google Glass owners say they would recommend the device to a good friend.
In our latest Glass Almanac poll question, we asked “If a good friend asked you today, would you recommend s/he buy Google Glass?” The poll was open from September 18 through December 1 and received 346 votes overall, making it the second-most popular poll we’ve run in terms of total responses.
Of those 346 votes, 43 percent said yes, they’d recommend Glass to a good friend and 57 percent said they wouldn’t.
What the poll doesn’t address — and this is important — is why. It might be tempting for some to look at the chart and conclude that this is another symbol of the current malaise surrounding Glass, or a reflection of user frustration with the device. That may be part of the explanation for the poll results, but it’s also possible that very happy Explorers voted “no” based purely on the existing $1500 cost to get Glass and become an Explorer. So, I wouldn’t read too much into the numbers. Perhaps in a future poll, we’ll try to answer the why question. (And as we always caution, this isn’t a scientific poll and we can’t be 100 percent certain that all votes came from current Glass Explorers.)
