Japan-based medical device company Omron Healthcare has partnered with AliveCor to help bring AliveCor’s FDA-cleared smartphone-connected electrocardiogram (ECG) to more online and brick and mortar retailers.

AliveCor CEO Euan Thomson told MobiHealthNews in an interview that Omron already sells its own products at various retailers, and through this partnership, Omron will bring AliveCor’s smartphone ECG device to market through some of its existing channels, which include Omron’s online store, retail pharmacies, mass-merchant retailers, and related online properties.

Retail locations that carry Omron devices today include Rite Aid, Target, Walgreens and Walmart.

Omron’s current product line includes home blood pressure monitors; fitness devices, like pedometers and heart rate monitors; a connected weight scale; a peak flow meter; and electrotherapy devices.

“Today people have sophisticated, user-friendly home products available to help them decrease their risk of stroke and heart attack,” Omron Healthcare COO Ranndy Kellogg said in a statement. “Yet, Americans are not taking care of their number one organ — their heart. By teaming with AliveCor, another global mobile health leader, we will show how simple it is to take care of your heart at home.”

In August, AliveCor launched a new app for patients, which was both timed with the new iOS 8 launch and incorporates the atrial fibrillation algorithm the company received FDA clearance for in August. In addition to the AF algorithm, the new app allows patients to track medications and symptoms and has enhanced search features and graphic capabilities.

And a few months ago, AliveCor partnered with Greatcall, which makes a line of mobile phones and health services marketed to seniors, to bring the AliveCor device to users with GreatCall phones.
