Tesco Groceries, the UK-based international retail giant, heads a list of four new Google Glass apps that have been approved and added to the Glassware directory.

Tesco lists its app as “a great companion to the Tesco mobile applications that you use for all your grocery shopping.” That’s an interesting word choice in there — “companion.” It makes it sound like maybe the app only works with Tesco’s other apps, and not on its own. I don’t live anywhere near one of the company’s stores, so I have no way to know on my own.

But don’t be thrown off by that description. This company video, produced six months ago, shows the Glass app working on its own. It uses barcode scanning to shop for groceries and view nutritional content.

In a blog post last summer, Tesco explained how it expects customers to use its Glass app (which was still in early stages then):

Glass isn’t the kind of tech you use for 15, 10 or even 5 minutes at a time. You’re not going to comfortably do your entire grocery shop by staring at the top right-hand corner of your field of vision, but you might just add a single item, see some nutritional information, and then move on. You might get a notification about your delivery, including a photo of your delivery driver.

If we have any readers that are Tesco customers and try the app, we’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

Meanwhile, three other apps also reached the Glassware directory in the past week or so:

AmKitchen

“AmKitchen is a voice and head gesture controlled recipe Glassware with images and videos. Other recipes are coming soon. Let’s cook healthy Japanese food!”

Evercam

“An Evercam integration that help you explore CCTV cameras nearby. It will show a snapshot of the nearest camera when requested.”

Life is Chula

“Life is Chula Glassware feeds the pic of the day from Instagram images using the #lavidaeschula tag. The pic will represent the meaning of “chula” in Spanish, which is something cool, something fun. At Desigual we want to share our source of inspiration with you through our pic of the day. Capture any moment that symbolizes how cool is life and share it. Our staff chooses the best everyday.”

That brings the directory up to 112 total apps.
