Droiders, a Spanish developer team, is releasing its YouTube video-streaming Glassware Streye Live, news sure to stir the pot of discussion about continuing app development for Google Glass.
The app lets owners of the Glass Explorer edition start broadcasting hands-free video through YouTube Live Events by saying “ok glass, start broadcasting.”
Today I activated the new Glassware directly from my Google Glass and was able to create a sample live broadcast — after first logging in to my seldom-used YouTube account and enabling Live Events. Once that’s done, when you start a Glass broadcast with Streye Live the app automatically emails you a link to the YouTube event. You can then share that link with others. In my experience the video and audio quality were pretty good, about what I remember from the Glass Video Hangouts feature long ago. The streaming delay was about 30 seconds during our test at home.
The Glass-to-YouTube app follows closely on Droiders’ release this month of its augmented reality Glassware, Nativo. For the past two years, Droiders had focused on specialty video steaming applications for Glass, such as company brand events and enterprise deployments. The developers previously made news by supporting the first Glass-assisted clinical intervention between the CEMTRO clinic in Madrid and Stanford University Medical Center.
They position the release of Streye Live as a preview of its suite of Glassware products set to debut next month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Paul Gailey, Droiders marketing director, said, “Hands-free video streaming from Glass to YouTube allows a raft of possibilities and rapid distribution of content to audiences. Early reception among Explorers indicates there is latent demand for such Glassware which is no longer the exclusive reserve of enterprise clients.”
Droiders teased the launch of Streye Live on Twitter with a Valentine’s Day-related #loveglass campaign, including the chance to earn discounts on Streye products.
“We’re thrilled to launch Streye Live for Explorers everywhere and look forward to unveiling further video Glassware in the coming weeks. We will refine Streye Live for the next version of Glass which will likely offer even greater possibilities,” said Julian Beltrán, Droiders CEO.
